Major Brent William Thompson is an Army attorney serving as the chief legal advisor to a light infantry brigade in Hawaii, responsible for ground combat throughout Asia and the Pacific Islands.
Past assignments include Battalion Judge Advocate for 2d Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne); Administrative Law Attorney for the 1st Armored Division; Trial Counsel and Operational Attorney for 3d Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division; Special Assistant United States Attorney for Fort Bliss, Texas; anti-armor platoon leader, infantry rifle platoon leader, and scout platoon leader in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment; and enlisted infantryman in the 2d Infantry Division. During these assignments, Major Thompson served in a variety of locations, including Florida, Texas, California, Korea and Afghanistan.
Major Thompson graduated with Highest Honors from Montana State University and holds a Master of Public Administration from the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a Juris Doctor, Order of Barristers from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University Bloomington; a Master of Laws in military law with an International and Operational Law specialty from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School; and is completing a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He was an inaugural Military Fellow in the Project on International Peace and Security at the College of William & Mary, and attended the first Chief of Staff, Army Strategic Broadening Seminar with the Intermediate Command and Staff Course (Land) at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham, England.
Major Thompson’s military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Scout Leader’s Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), Judge Advocate Officer Basic and Graduate Courses, and Airborne, Air Assault, Pathfinder, and Ranger Schools. He holds foreign skill badges from Germany and Norway, and foreign parachutist wings from Canada and Colombia. He is a recipient of the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Combat Action Badge, and the Bronze Star.
